One is running hot, the other is only warming up
Vidmanova's month has been excellent — a final in Memphis, then three straight wins here, the qualifying route stretching to three sets along the way. The pattern inside those matches is less comfortable: she takes the opening set, then loosens her grip and has to win the same match twice.
Bucsa's win over Bondar looked different from anything since her return. Instead of surviving, she controlled the rallies, absorbed one spell of pressure and never let the usual dip arrive. Her early returns, sudden changes of direction and short angles strip away the flat serve-plus-one line Vidmanova likes to live on.
Where fresh legs start to bite
Their previous meeting on hard courts offers a template: the Spaniard rode out the opening surge, flipped the first set and then squeezed the match shut. The same script sits on the table here, this time with heavier legs on the other side of the net.
Vidmanova is the more confident player of the two right now, and the recovery of Bucsa is not fully proven, but at this price the fresher and far more awkward opponent is the one to side with.
