Ibragimova brings the heavier evidence
Ibragimova’s best result this week was a 7-5, 6-1 win over world No. 145 Leyre Romero Gormaz. She absorbed the difficult opening set, then took the match away with depth, changes of height and firmer return pressure.
Herrero Linana has been equally orderly, most recently beating No. 304 Eva Bennemann 6-3, 6-2. Her early contact and attention to the second serve suit clay, although her three Antalya opponents have all been ranked outside the top 270.
The first attack may not be enough
Herrero Linana will look to control the serve-plus-one exchange and keep Ibragimova from settling into longer rallies. The problem is that Ibragimova has recently handled stronger pace and more accomplished opposition, while retaining enough variety to turn defence into an awkward next ball.
The younger player’s combined singles and doubles workload is the sensible caution, as is her occasional habit of becoming protective when ahead.
