The line makes Kostyuk the favourite at 1.74 against 2.14, which is effectively a bet on momentum she built somewhere else. Her breakthrough — a clay title, deep runs at the majors, a career-high ranking — came on courts that gave her time.
Two opening wins that read very differently
Kostyuk arrived after a long layoff and spent the first set against Sebov giving away free points on her own serve. Second balls, a run of double faults, service games lost to an opponent with no means of punishing any of it. She tidied things up later, but Sebov had neither the power nor the speed to attack a short delivery.
Keys played her opener on the front foot and never allowed her opponent a passage of belief. Hard courts are historically her best surface, and her first strike removes exactly the time Kostyuk needs for her movement and variety. The current hard-court stretch is the most modest part of the Ukrainian's season.
The second ball decides who dictates
The blueprint already exists. Keys has beaten Kostyuk twice in the Wimbledon third round, both in straight sets, both times by standing in the court and taking the ball early. That plan travels better on a quick hard court than on grass, where the lower bounce let Kostyuk hang in with slice.
The risk is Keys herself: she lost a deciding set in Washington from a position she had already won. That argues for a tight match, not for her being the outsider, and the price is where the value sits.
