He is a relief-built right-hander whose slider-heavy look gives the Mets a reason to load left-handed and switch-hitting bats. Lindor, a switch-hitter coming off Friday's home run, and Jared Young fit that plan. The Nationals may also need bulk innings behind him, and Jake Bird's heavier Friday workload leaves one clear fatigue concern.
Afternoon Air and an Open Park Favor Progress, Not a Launch Pad
Citi Field is open-air, and first pitch is set for 4:10 p.m. ET under mostly sunny skies and temperatures around 82 degrees. The park's spacious alleys are not a reliable power boost, but warm afternoon air gives fly balls more carry than a cool night would. The Mets' team total rests on the shape of the Nationals' pitching more than on a sustained shelling. A short or ineffective Lord start would force the Nationals into bulk relievers during a compressed road trip, and one compromised inning can cover the number.
